The Computer Training Suite

Mahon CDP accessed funding during 2003, from the ‘CAIT Initiative’ through the Department of Community Rural and Gaeltach Affairs (DCRGA) to provide a computer training suite at the Community Resource Centre.
The computer training is targeted at those who normally would not have access to I. T. in the mainstream and people who feel they need a gentler initiation into the world of computer technology.
The Computer training at Mahon CDP is supported by the VEC through the allocation of Tutor Hours. The classes are of the highest quality and delivered by Tutors from the VEC Tutor Panel.

There are FETAC Foundation Level courses just completed and it is hoped to run another Foundation level during 2004. A FETAC Level 1 course in computers has also just completed. The availability of classes for 2004 as listed is dependent on VEC support. Cork City Partnership through the Mahon Education Network has allocated some tutor hours for computer training.

The training provided is delivered in a friendly non threatening way. Participants form friendships and learn at their own pace.

Other courses will be developed and come on stream during 2005.

These courses will include Introduction to Email and Internet.

Mahon CDP Offers the following Courses for individuals Sept. 04

Computer Classes over 10 week period. Class duration 2 hours per week.
FETAC Accreditated Foundation in Basis Computer Literacy. Cost: € 30.00
FETAC Accreditated Level 1 in Computer Literacy.
Cost: € 30.00

Individuals may apply for one of the computer classes by placing your name on a waiting list at the:Community Resource Centre, Unit 7 , Mahon Shopping Centre, Avenue de Rennes, Mahon, Cork.

Registration Forms will be circulated to all those on the list during September 04 and places will be allocated to those returning their completed Registration Form along with payment on a first come first served basis. back

Computer Suite available to local groups
The computer training suite has 8 computers and is wheelchair accessible. The Computer Suite is also available for local community groups to book out the facility at a nominal charge for the room and stationary, provide their own tutor and run their own courses. back
