The Mahon Area

The catchment area for the Mahon Community Development Project is the Mahon peninsula on the southern bank of the River Lee.

Mahon is a relatively new suburb of Cork City with a population of almost 12,000 people.

There is a ratio of 2:1 local authority and private housing in the area and there is also a local authority halting site for Travellers.

There are poor community facilities in the area but there is strong community involvement in a wide variety of groups.

The Community Centre at Avenue de Rennes was long awaited and opened officially on 12th December 2003.
