Mahon Youth Network

The Mahon Youth Network is a network of 14 local youth groups and organisations in the Mahon area who have come together to improve youth activities.

This Network was started, and is supported by, the Mahon Community Development Project since February 1999 and it meets monthly.

What Does the Network do?

Identify and lobby for youth facilities.

Share skills, information and resources.

Joint funding applications.
Support youth fora.
Research.

Achievements

Successfully linked with City of Cork VEC and Cork City Council to acquire and furnish five portable classrooms in the grounds of Ringmahon House (formerly Gaelscoil) for use as a temporary youth facility.

Set up youth forum for 8 - 11 year age group, 12 -15 year age group and 16 + age group.

Researched the needs of young people in Mahon.
Joint projects e.g. integrated summer scheme.

Anti-racist training and workshops for young people and youth workers.

Developed proposal for purpose built dedicated youth facility to be built in the grounds of the Nagle Community College.
