Networks
Mahon
CDP are involved in Networks in the Mahon area. The Networks
are made up of local volunteers and people working in the Mahon
area.
MAHON
CHILDCARE NETWORK
Due
to linking and communication which takes place under the Network
there is a community wide approach to childcare provision and
progression from 6mts to 12 yrs.
There
is a tracking and support system in place for children and their
families.
Local parents can avail of education, training and employment
opportunities.
The
Network initiated a local St. Patrick's Day Parade, this encouraged
a variety of organisations, groups and volunteers to work together
collectively.
This
is the first time that there has been collective community wide
celebration event for ten years.
Through a culmination of lobbying, Cork City Council and Southern
Health Board have linked with the Childcare Network to work
towards the provision of a local supervised play area.

This
coordinated and holistic approach is as a direct result of the
Network's existence.
Young people developed specific art skills through activities

MAHON YOUTH NETWORK more
As
a direct result of the consultation and lobbying by the Mahon
Youth Network for a permanent dedicated youth facility, a Task
Group for this purpose was established through RAPID.
This
Task Group is facilitated by Mahon CDP and comprises of Cork
City Council and V.E.C representatives as well as Mahon Youth
Network Members.
Key
statutory backing and involvement has added credibility and
enormous impetus to this quest for a dedicated youth centre,
resulting in initial funding accessed and the appointment of
an architect.
